"Play a leading and influential role nationally within the rural housing sector"
This year we continued to build and sustain our position as a leading voice within the rural housing sector, strengthening our influence across policy, research and sector engagement. This reflects a clear commitment not just to deliver homes and services, but to shape the wider environment in which rural housing is understood, prioritised and delivered.
We were delighted to maintain our Royal Patronage, with the office of Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal renewing her official support for a further three years. This continued backing is a source of real pride and helps raise the profile of small-scale affordable rural housing.
Advocacy at a national level has been central to this work. We maintained a strong position of influence through engagement with sector bodies and Government-related organisations, including contributions to consultations on planning policy and funding mechanisms. We also led and supported a range of initiatives, including the drive to secure long-term funding for the Rural Housing Enabler network through Defra, helping to keep the challenges facing rural housing firmly in view.
Alongside advocacy, we placed a strong focus on our communications capability. The development and approval of a new Communications Strategy for 2025-29 marks an important step in enhancing how we engage with stakeholders, share insight and amplify our influence.
Evidence and research also supported this ambition. We continued to build our evidence base, including the launch of new research linked to devolution through the Rural Housing Network, and taking part in a programme coordinated by UCL that has secured funding for a new National Rural Housing Innovation Hub. These initiatives deepen understanding of rural housing issues and provide a foundation for informed advocacy and future policy.
Taken together, the progress made this year demonstrates a clear and coordinated approach to sector leadership. Through advocacy, communications, research and strong relationships, we have continued to play an influential role in shaping the direction of rural housing policy and practice, keeping the needs of rural communities visible and prioritised at a national level.
Our national advocacy remains vital in making sure rural communities are never overlooked. Through robust research, proactive policy engagement and a refreshed communications approach, we continue to bring rural voices to the heart of national debate, influencing policy to secure meaningful investment and lasting solutions for our residents.
