Repairs, Rats & Rubbish
>> English Rural will still accept and raise repairs that are non-urgent, but these will not be completed in line within the 30-day priority. We will not be requesting our contractors make arrangements within the standard 48-hour timeframe to make an appointment.
At the appropriate time, English Rural contractors will resume the process of arranging suitable appointments. If the repair worsens and you feel this is an emergency, please call the repairs line for further advice.
English Rural intend to continue delivering ‘make safe or repair’ within the 24-hour timeframe and residents should continue to report these repairs by phone or via the portal. Please check our FAQs and residents' portal for regular updates.

Rat and Mice Infestations...
>> With the mild winter we have experienced, there are many residents that are facing problems with rat and mice infestations. You can assist in preventing an infestation by taking a number of simple precautions:
Rats and mice are adaptable, highly mobile and breed rapidly to produce large infestations. This can make their control difficult for the untrained individual and we recommend, you employ the services of a reputable pest control contractor approved by the British Pest Control Association - www.bpca.org.uk - or call your local council as some councils offer a free service.
Rubbish...
>> In normal times it is not permitted to store large amounts of rubbish in gardens or communal areas. Not only does this attract vermin, it is unsightly and can cause issues between neighbours. Household rubbish should be disposed of in your council bins for collection where possible. Garden rubbish bins can be purchased from local councils for a nominal yearly amount which then form part of normal collections.
Any large rubbish should be taken to your nearest council recycling centre to dispose of. Should you have bulky items or white goods that need disposing of, bulk collections can be booked for a small fee via your local council website.
During the Covid19 crisis, many councils have suspended bulk collections and closed recycling centres. Until they reopen, rubbish should be stored in your gardens/property until such time that normal services resume.
Bees and Wasps...
>> At this time of year wasps and bees are quite common in rural areas. Pest Control is resident responsibility, and English Rural suggests that residents contact their local authority pest control department for advice and assistance if a nest has become a nuisance, or source a local pest control operative to assist.
If the nest is actually a bees nest, then the resident could source a local bee keeper, who will be more than happy to attend and remove the nest.
Damp Prevention...
>> Bushes that grow close against property walls or climbing plants can cause damp penetration, so good pruning is needed. When summer has ended, it may be a good idea to cut the bushes back, whilst there are no leaves on them; this also promotes a good healthy shape the following year.
Heating...
>> During and towards the end of the summer months, check all of your heating and hot water appliances are in good working order, to ensure that you are not inconvenienced as the colder weather descends.
